23/07/2010 - How should churches respond to the Big Society?
Friday 23rd July 2010, 6:15pm-8pm (doors open 5:30) The Oasis Centre, 75 Westminster Bridge Rd, London, SE1 7HS
The Most Reverend and Right Honorable Dr Rowan Williams, Archbishop of Canterbury explored the opportunities and challenges for Christian organisations and churches engaging with the government's vision of the Big Society.
See below for a short video excerpt from the opening of Rowan Williams' address.
In an event held at the Oasis Centre in the lead up to the general election David Cameron described The Big Society as the government's guiding philosophy. In this sense it is a philosophy we must get to grips with.
To help explore what charities and churches response to the Big Society should be the Archbishop was joined by Bob Reitemeier the chief exectutive of the Children's Society and Fran Becket, former CEO of the Church Urban Fund to respond to questions from the audience. The evening was chaired by Steve Chalke MBE and Founder of Oasis UK, Stop the Traffik, and Oasis Community Learning.
