Communities in Britain face huge new challenges as well as new opportunities over the next five years. Churches and Christian charities are committed to working for real, lasting change for individuals and whole communities inspired and motivated by our faith in the God of unconditional love and justice, as revealed through Christ.
Our faith is our engine – its content and character directly affects both the quality and character of the care we give.

This is why we are calling on the incoming Prime Minister to:
- Recognise the important contribution that local churches and Christian charities have made historically, and can make in the coming years in providing services within local communities across the UK.
- Acknowledge the indispensible role that faith in Christ plays in the motivation and effectiveness of welfare programs developed by churches and Christian charities.
- Encourage and promote further initiatives and deeper partnership underpinned by legislation, which assess services based on best value and contribution to the whole community, without discriminating against the faith that is vital to the success of the work of churches and faith-based organisations.
"Will you make a stand? Will you grasp this moment to ensure the voice of the church is heard by our new government? Will you and your church sign the Faithworks 2010 Declaration, which I promise to deliver personally and publically to the incoming Prime Minister?”
Steve Chalke MBE, Founder of Faithworks.
In support of the Faithworks 2010 Declaration the Faithworks movement is calling on churches and Christian charities to:
- Sign the Faithworks 2010 Declaration, which Faithworks founder Steve Chalke MBE will personally present the declaration the incoming Prime Minister.
- Invite your local MP to visit a church or faith-based community project in your area to see their life transforming work first-hand.
- Arrange a joint prayer meeting about an issue which affects your town or area, inviting an outside speaker from a local church or charity that already works to combat the issue.
- Arrange a public ‘hustings’ meeting with your local MP and other Prospective Parliamentary Candidates in the run up to the General Election. Do this as a local group of churches. Question them about their attitude to the Faithworks Declaration. If they’re elected as your MP, how would they see their relationship with the local churches working out in practice?
- Contact your local newspapers, radio stations and regional TV stations. Tell them about the Faithworks 2010 Declaration, highlighting how it relates to your church’s own welfare work.
