Emergency food provides a life line to people in crisis. Food is collected by churches and from the public by volunteers at supermarkets, and given to people in crisis as a result of referrals from registered care professionals such as social services, health visitors, and other carers working in the front line.
As well as providing recipients with emergency food, The Food Bank offers ‘one-stop’ access to a range of services (Citizens’ Advice Bureau, debt counsellors, advocacy) to enable recipients to begin to break their long-term cycle of poverty.
