Changing Leadership

If we are to see lasting change in our communities, we must first become that change.  This means that we have to learn to dream of the impossible and lead people to do what they thought could never be done.  To do this, we have to lead people into the change that we want to see.

This stream, with practitioners from Oasis, highlights the importance of good leadership.  It is an honest exploration of leadership and will be led by leaders for leaders.  The seminar stream will highlight the need for releasing leadership and will challenge some of the myths about good leadership.

Earthy and practical, it will also be inspiring and encouraging.  Whatever level of leadership you are involved in, this stream will help you to lead more effectively.

Steve Chalke, the Founder of Faithworks and Oasis, led the main session on Change Agents.

Vulnerable Leadership
For all those of you who have a perfectly organized sock drawer and an alphabetised CD collection we’ve got some bad news for you; Leadership is messy, and it’s going to get messier!  What once felt like leading the flock now feels like herding cats.  Whatever happened to ‘when I say jump, you say “how high?”’  If we want people to follow us we have to use different tools from the ones that worked in the past.  In this session we will be looking at what leadership will increasingly need to look like if we are to become the agents of change we long to see.

Volunteer Leadership
Unprofessional, untrained and unbelievably important! The reality of churches in varied and challenging environments, seeking to engage in their local community will mean a heavy dose of good hearted and willing volunteers. But what does it mean to equip and lead volunteers in a setting that needs stability, longevity and eternal hope. How can we turn around a culture of short term volunteering to long-term grass roots participation?

Virtuous Leadership
One local church leader based in the heart of the inner city said ‘on the walk to work I ask God to prepare me and on the walk home I ask Him to repair me.’ This reality of leadership within a context of local community engagement is exhausting. So how do we as leaders maintain our relationship with God? As we look out for the needs of others, who is looking out for us? What is virtuous leadership? What do you do when the fervor and passion seems a million miles away or a distant memory?
