Derbyshire / Association of Christian Counsellors - Conference

30th January 2009 (4.30pm start) - 1st February 2009 (3.45pm finish)
The Hayes Conference Centre, Swanick, Derbyshire DE55 1AU

The Association of Christian Counsellors (ACC) conference 2009 is one part of their Training Event and Conference programme.

Hands together in unison

In addition to ‘bread and butter’ topics of bereavement, and areas of loss, training and workshops will give opportunities for much more. Delegates will be able to play in sand, explore African Caribbean marriages and counselling,
understand about street culture, and think about domestic violence. There is also an emphasis on sexual issues and therapy.

Sessions will include:

David Hall - A theology of sex
A look at Christian Counsellors’ view of sex as it relates to counselling and theology with concerns for clinical application.
Teresa Onions - Finding my way
What am I called to do? What am I equipped to do? What is not mine to do? An opportunity to explore our personal involvement in pastoral care
Finding our way
Should pastoral care be organised or organic? Is it a way of doing or being? An opportunity to explore the strengths and limitations of
pastoral structures
Rebecca Mitchell - We all sit next to a survivor
Child Sexual Abuse is rife in the Christian Community. Find out what the core issues are and how to give effective support to adult survivors.
Barbara DePledge - Is your supervision stretching enough?
Supervision is vital in ensuring both safety and increasing effectiveness in counselling practice. This workshop is to help both supervisors and supervisees develop its value.
Dr Peter Madsen Gubi - Integrating prayer in counselling
The workshop explores the possibilities and difficulties for ethically integrating prayer in counselling.
Danuta Lipinska -Walking the line - dual relationships in counselling
Explore how to maintain integrity in practice and boundaries in
private when you meet your client at church, the gym or the
school gate.
David and Pauline Pearson - Safety First!
Are you doing all you should to protect children and young people?
Child protection policies and procedures, including listening to
children, can make church a safer place.
John Nightingale -Accreditation - The ACC ‘Kitemark’
Guidance about the process to ensure applicants feel supported in
putting together their application. How to present evidence of good
practice within the case study parameters.
Shan Dobinson - Working with vulnerable adults
Do counsellors need to adapt? Is there legislation that professionals
need to consider? Is there an increased risk of allegations? And
other issues.
