On the 12th May as a response to the Rt Hon Andy Burnham event on healthcare we are hosting the first of three "Do tanks" that will be chaired by Dame Sarah Mullally. Before becoming a full time Priest Sarah was the government’s Chief Nursing Officer, the most senior nurse in England. With responsibility for over 400,000 nurses and midwives she advised the Prime Minister, the Secretary of State for Health and other senior officials on issues related to the professions as well as having responsibility for improving people’s experience of the NHS and acting as the Voluntary Sector Champion for the Department of Health.
Update - Health and Social Care do tank

On July, the 22nd Charities Parliament held the second “do tank” on health and social care chaired by Dame Sarah Mullally. Representatives from the Salvation Army, Burrswood, Hull Churches Home from Hospital, Parish Nursing, Age Concern, Lifewhys and The Whole Systems Partnership were amongst the attendees. The topics discussed included:
- The resourcing potential of voluntary and faith organisations,
- The relationship between charities and the Big Society
- Connectivity between services
- Older people in volunteering positions and the benefits they bring to an organisation.
The next “do tank” is scheduled for the 13th of July when the group will focus on issues related to funding.
The expertise and insight the guests provided was greatly appreciated and will be considered and incorporated into the Charities Parliament policy paper on Social Care which will be published later this year.
