Awards 2007

In 2007 Faithworks, with sponsors Congregational & General Insurance, Oasis UK and Spurgeon's Network, awarded a total of £20,000 to four Christian projects that were effectively serving the needs of their local communities.  Shortlisted projects in each category were awarded between £100-£500, donated by Kingdom Bank.

At the Awards presentation ceremony at Olympia London on the evening of the 5th February 2008, the recipients from the four categories and the award for Lifetime Achievement were announced. 

Faithworks Award Gold Star

 

The criteria and shortlists for each of the four awards were as follows

The Improving the Lives of Children and Young People Award sponsored by Spurgeons

This award was for initiatives, motivated by a Christian faith, that are:

  • improving outcomes for disadvantaged children and young people in their local community; 
  • highly professional in their approach to caring for and safeguarding children and young people;
  • effectively involving children and young people in the running and development of the project.

The shortlisted projects were

  • Elizabeth House - Gateshead
  • Fearnheath Play Association - Bournemouth
  • Fusion Youth Centre - Bournemouth
  • GoldDigger Trust - Sheffield
  • Lifespace - Stratford
  • Sunflower Garden Project - Edinburgh
  • St Michael's Youth Project - Hull

The recipient of the Improving the lives of Children and Young People Award 2007 was Sunflower Garden Project and the commended project was 


The Community Inclusion Award sponsored by Oasis UK

This award was for projects, motivated by a Christian faith, that:

  • actively work in partnership to promote inclusion and challenge injustice;
  • demonstrate a joined up approach to service delivery; 
  • are rooted in an inner city community.

The shorlisted proejcts were:

  • Big Buzz Club - Liverpool
  • Boaz Trust - Manchester
  • Groundswell Trust - Southampton
  • The Imago Project - Belfast
  • St Luke's Advice Centre - Brighton
  • West Harton Churches Action Station - Tyneside

The recipient of the Community Inclusion Award 2007 was Big Buzz Club and the commended project was St Luke's Advice Centre


The Community Excellence Award sponsored by Congregational & General Insurance

This award is for projects that, motivated by a Christian faith, are:

  • currently delivering services to tackle a local need;
  • whilst aspiring to the principles of best practice as contained within the Faithworks Charter.

The shortlisted projects were:

  • Cornerstone Trust (Bishop's Stortford) - Essex
  • Halifax Street Angels - Halifax
  • Hull Churches Home from Hospital Service- Hull
  • Open Door International Language School - Plymouth
  • The Terminus Initiative - Sheffield
  • WHCM (West Ham Central Mission) Counselling and Support - East London

The recipient of the Community Excellence Award 2007 was Hull Churches Home from Hospital Service and the commended project was Open Door International Language School


The Faithworks Members Award for Community Commitment contributed by members of the Faithworks Movement*

This award is for projects, motivated by a Christian faith, that:

  • are serving the needs an excluded group within their local community;
  • have an annual turnover of less than £25,000 per year;
  • are managed and run on a voluntary basis.

The shortlisted projects were:

  • Colchester Nightstop - Colchester
  • Making a Difference Tameside Ltd - Manchester
  • Ness Youth Centre - Isle of Lewis
  • Samaritan Network - London
  • St Andrews Memory Club - Great Yarmouth
  • Yarls Wood Befrienders - Bedford

The recipient of the Community Commitment Award 2007 was Samaritan Network and the commended project was Ness Youth Centre.
