Why a Faithworks Movement?

In every British community there is an aching need for a new approach to tackling needs and providing public services. The door of opportunity is wide open for local churches to place themselves at the heart of their community and provide solutions to the breadth of people’s needs.

The Government has started to recognise the local church as capable of making a distinct contribution in the public service field.

Within this changing climate, the Faithworks Movement was formed to help churches make the most of this opportunity. This period of transition in the arena of public services demands that the Church seizes the moment to stand up and be counted among the key players in local community re-development before the opportunity disappears.

But we will only be able to do so as we provide social action initiatives in a relevant and thoroughly professional manner, working with other churches, secular agencies and the Government – for the good of those we serve.

Faithworks was also set up as a direct challenge to the negative media coverage that so often engulfs the Church. It is time for local churches to tell different stories - stories of hope and of faith transforming lives and communities.

With the help of partner organisations, affiliated organisations and churches, and members – the Faithworks Movement can become a genuine movement of hope for the nation.
