Northern Ireland - Projects Transforming Communities
Across Northern Ireland, projects inspired by the Christian faith are having a transformational effect on local communities.  Faithworks celebrates and promotes this work in order to encourage and empower other churches and Christians to rediscover their role at the heart of their community.

The Imago Project, Belfast
Shortlisted for the Community Inclusion Award in 2007, this project seeks to reintegrate people with minor mental illness and social isolation back into society.  Imago doesn’t use therapy but works on an early intervention approach, with referrals from GPs and Community Psychiatric Nurses.  It provides befriending, training, awareness-raising and support services, helping to prevent a spiral into major ill health. Oasis Caring in Action www.oasis-ni.org which Imago is a part, was featured in "Faith works in..." To read the article click here.

Community and Family Counselling – Social Prescribing
Shortlisted for the Faithworks Spring Harvest Community Innovation Award for Developing Projects 2006, Social Prescribing is a free counselling service to individuals suffering emotional or mental health issues, which has been adopted as a ‘social prescribing’ pilot by the local Health Board, enabling GPs and patients to seek an alternative to the increasing culture of anti-depressants.

Restored Ministries
Shortlisted for the Faithworks Spring Harvest Community Innovation Award for New Projects 2006. This project based in Coleraine, Co. Londonderry, this seeks to redecorate and provide quality recycled furniture for people being rehoused due to marital break-up or other difficult circumstances. Higher Force Challenge
Based in the Shankhill Road area of Belfast, Higher Force Challenge is an 8-week course for young people. In an area of high unemployment, crime, drug and alcohol abuse, as well as paramilitary violence, it is easy to be swamped by feelings of hopelessness and to be sucked into the same lifestyle. Higher Force Challenge gives them another choice.

Mornington Community Project
The Mornington Community project has been working for the 'holistic wellbeing' of the Lower Ormeau Road area of Belfast for over 12 years. Initiated by local women in 1989, the focus of the project has been on finding positive and practical answers to socio-economic disadvantage and the viscious sectarian strife that has threatened to destroy the community.
