Northern Ireland Council for Voluntary Action
NICVA is an umbrella organisation, seeking to represent the interests of voluntary and community organisations throughout Northern Ireland. In its role as a voluntary sector development agency, NICVA acts as a catalyst to promote innovation and new approaches to the challenge of social need.

Prayer Forum of British Isles & Ireland 
This is a coalition of organisations, networks, churches and individuals from Scotland, Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland, Wales, England, Channel Islands and Isle of Man that meet together to promote unity and prayer for the transformation of our nations.

Northern Ireland Department for Social Development 
It has strategic responsibility for urban regeneration, community and voluntary sector development, social legislation, housing, social security benefits, pensions and child support.

Volunteer Development Agency
The Volunteer Development Agency is the lead organisation for the promotion and development of volunteering across Northern Ireland. The Agency is a charity recognised by the HM Revenue and Customs and a membership organisation. Our mission is promoting and developing volunteering to build stronger communities

Homeless Northern Ireland
Homeless Northern Ireland has information on over 380 services that can help homeless people and those at risk of homelessness. It includes hostels, day centres and other advice and support services.

Advice NI
Advice NI's mission is to develop an independent advice sector that provides the best possible advice to those who need it most.


In April 2006 Minister of State David Hammond urged church leaders to work with Government to tackle deprivation.  Speaking as he launched the cross departmental Action Plan called “Renewing Communities", Mr Hanson announced, “If we are to grow a new leadership it will require others - leaders in the churches, politicians, the community and voluntary sector and the business community to work with us. You must return to these communities, you must get involved again; you must support those people who want to move away from paramilitarism and you must use your experience, skills and resources to work with us to help communities rebuild hope, revive confidence and restore pride.”
