Derbyshire / Association of Christian Counsellors - Training Event

The Association of Christian Counsellors (ACC) training event for 2009 is one part of their Training Event and Conference programme.

Hands together in unison

In addition to ‘bread and butter’ topics of bereavement, and areas of loss, training and workshops will give opportunities for much more. Delegates will be able to play in sand, explore African Caribbean marriages and counselling,
understand about street culture, and think about domestic violence. There is also an emphasis on sexual issues and therapy.

Sessions will include:

Dr David Hall - Introduction to sex therapy - a Christian perspective
Basic training in understanding human sexuality and sex therapy principles as they apply to the field of Christian Counselling.
Dr Rob Waller - Why we don't feel safe. A CBT approach for anxiety disorders
From simple anxiety and panic, to more complex work with trauma, OCD and social phobia, learn how Cognitive Behavioural Therapy can help.
Bill Merrington - Playing at loss
Examining issues raised through loss events in life in particular the impact of loss in young people and how we can use play therapy (particularly bibliotherapy) as a tool to aid recovery.
David Kinchin - Understanding psychological debriefing
The need for a more formalised way of helping people process the imprint of psychological trauma has become paramount. Exploring ways of ‘defusing’ and ‘debriefing’ the traumatised.
Paul Hebblethwaite - I’m not good enough!
A CBT approach to helping client’s with low self-esteem. Live/DVD demonstrations, group work and personal reflection will be utilised.
Reg Bywater - Is it ok to be angry as a Christian?
Anger is all around us in Society. Should Christians display such traits?
Exploring the issue through role plays,drama,disscussions and theory based materials etc.
