The Bridge Bond Scheme, Coventry
Shortlisted for the Faithworks Spring Harvest Community Innovation Award for Developing Projects 2006. This project issues bond guarantees and builds relationships with private landlords on behalf of homeless people. In a city with a shrinking social housing base, it provides a way for private landlords to take on the high risk of housing people who have been homeless.
The Door Youth Project, Stroud
Shortlisted for the Faithworks Congregational Community Excellence Award 2006, this community drop-in/coffee bar, was set up as a direct result of consultation with the young people of the area. It incorporates dedicated sessions for those excluded from mainstream education and has service contract agreements with several local schools. Keresley Village Link Worker Project, Keresley, Coventry
The project is set in Keresley Village, a small community struggling to come to terms with the loss of identity resulting from the closure of the coal mining pit in 1996.
The Dragon Project, Worcester, West Midlands
The Dragon Project works with young people who have a fascination for cars. Most of them are in danger of becoming excluded from mainstream education and are involved in vehicle-related crime or other criminal activities.
New Hope Mentoring Programme, Birmingham
This programme helps people integrate back into society following referrals from prisons, police, probation and drug teams. The clients receive mentoring and befriending support as well as training in life skills to aid their re-integration to the community. New Hope Mentoring was awarded the Faithworks Community Innovation Award 2005.
Community Chaplaincy, Birmingham
Community Chaplaincy projects, promoted and developed by the Churches Criminal Justice Forum, offer help to those leaving prison who do not have the benefit of supportive family ties. Their goal is the successful reintegration of ex-offenders back into the community.
Second Thoughts Community Shop, Sutton Coldfield
Sutton Coldfield Baptist Church wanted to set up a community project to get the church out of its building and meet people with whom they may not normally come into contact. Staffed by local church memebers, Second Thoughts is a shop that serves the local community both through the sale of second-hand goods and the reinvestment of profits in local projects.
