Two years ago Katherine Brenchley (28), a Languages graduate, took a leap of faith by leaving her office-based job and becoming a student midwife. “Much of my job had been about supporting churches and Christian groups to get involved with their local communities, but I just began to get a feeling that instead of telling people how to do it, it was time to start doing it myself,” she says. “I just didn’t find desk work fulfilling.”
Katherine is now almost half-way through a three-year course, at the end of which she will become a fully qualified midwife. “This just feels like this is where I’m meant to be. It was quite a leap of faith to go back to being a student, but I just see signs of God every day. I’m on half the income that I had when I was earning a salary, but I live better now than I ever did. I just know that He’s in it with me.
“People have said to me that I’m really using my potential now, and I’d never really thought about that before, but I’m beginning to feel that I do have potential and I can reach it. Without my faith I wouldn’t be where I am now, and wouldn’t be living the life I have. There are many challenges but God is faithful, and if he has brought me this far, He’ll get me through.”
